It was a bizarre afternoon for the UCF Football team on Saturday. The Knights scored early and often, they had a running back rush for 150 yards and most of all, they got a win. Behind a couple of special teams miscues by Marshall, two interceptions from Sha'reff Rashad and a big day from running back Brynn Harvey, the Knights defeated Marshall 30-14 and snapped their four-game losing streak.
Behind 28 points from Jermaine Taylor and good shooting by freshman Issac Sosa, the UCF Men?s Basketball team claimed an 81-62 victory against North Carolina A&T on Sunday afternoon at the UCF Arena. Taylor recorded a thunderous one-handed dunk in the second half, and Dave Diakite threw down a rim-rocking slam of his own to lead the Knights (1-0 overall) to victory.
The UCF Men's Soccer team season is over. The sixth-seeded Knights fell to the second-seeded Kentucky Wildcats on Friday night in the Conference USA tournament semifinals 1-0 to end the Knights' 2008 season. The Knights finished the campaign with a 7-11-1 record.
Maybe the remedy for the UCF Football team's four-game losing streak is a road trip to Huntington, W. Va. Or maybe it is just playing a Marshall team that the Knights have not lost too since Oct. 30, 2004. Whether it was pride or the offensive line or the work of running back Brynn Harvey, UCF showed how dangerous it can be when it clicks on all cylinders.
The 2008 UCF cross country season ended on Saturday with an 18th place finish at the NCAA South Region Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. The Knights were led by senior Shantile Blackburn, who ran her final race for UCF placing 60th in 23:00.65. For Blackburn this was the second consecutive week and fifth time this season that she has finished first for the Knights.
The UCF Women's Soccer team advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament with a 3-1 victory against the Miami Hurricanes on Friday in Gainesville, but that is where the fun ended for the Knights. UCF was eliminated in the tournament's second round on Sunday by regional host Florida 2-0.
Not much has gone right for the UCF Volleyball team lately. The Knights, losers in nine of their last 10 matches, entered Saturday's meeting against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles looking to gain some momentum before next week's Conference USA Championship.
