The conditions were sloppy and the field was torn up, but Penn State found its footing in the final seconds of a 19-17 victory in the Capital One Bowl on Friday afternoon in the Citrus Bowl in Downtown Orlando.

Penn State quarterback Daryll Clark, who was named game MVP, passed for 216 and one touchdown and led a late drive that ended with the game-winning 21-yard field goal by Collin Wager to give the Nittany Lions the victory in a sloppy, muddy game.

Penn State jumped out to a 16-3 lead off a Wagner 20-yard field goal with 2:27 left in the third quarter, but LSU finally got on its feet and staged a comeback. Tiger quarterback Jordan Jefferson, who tossed for 202 yards and a touchdown in the game, led two drives in the fourth quarter to get back into the game, with the ladder resulting in a 1-yard touchdown run by Stevan Ridley to give the Tigers a 17-16 lead with 12:49 left in the game.

Both teams played sloppy in the game, combining for six fumbles and an interception. The difference was that Penn State never lost any of their four fumbles, while LSU coughed it up twice and threw a pick. LSU dropped close to four interceptions in the game, a lot of which had to do with field conditions.
